Bragging Rights for Life

Elsa and her Peepa had a little competition going on.  First one to go under 20 minutes for a 5K would have bragging rights for life.  I promised to have the bib number of the successful runner professionally framed, and a plaque made up with the details.  (Peepa's best 5K time is 15:46, but that was 17 years ago)

Elsa has been trying for a year to earn the bragging rights.  She put in two times of 20:01 (ahhhhhhhhhhh) and 6 other 5K's under 21 minutes, but that under 20 minutes was proving to be rather difficult.  Peepa was training, but the knees just wouldn't allow him to finish training.  He decided to go through the Spatial Frame procedure again to reposition the leg and take the pressure off his knee.  He did this to the left leg 8 years ago, and had relief, but said he wouldn't do it again.  He must have been in a great deal of pain to go through this again for 5 months:

Peepa was out of the running (pun totally intended) for the bragging rights, but Elsa decided to go ahead and keep trying, much to Peepa's chagrin.  ;)  She was ready for the Mustache March and was really feeling it.  It was the 21st anniversary of my sister's disappearance and we spent most of the hour and a half ride to the race talking about the Aunt she never got to meet.  She decided to run the race in her late Aunt's honor.  It was cold, but other than that, she was ready!

This was her kind of race!  Lots of people wearing lots of mustache related paraphernalia.  They were also holding best real and fake mustache contests later in the day.  She just loves all the extra excitement, and she was determined, and I was really hoping she would get that under 20 minutes so we could hold off on any more 5Ks for a while.  Ha!

It was a great thing to see her round the corner with plenty of time to spare.  She did it, and she did it well!  19:47!!!  She was so proud!

...and I kept my end of the bargain :)
