Best Friends and States

Elsa and I were pretty excited to get away for a girls weekend and a chance to cheer Tess on at the Track and Field State Championship!  The meet was to be held over two days and we left early enough to make it to opening ceremonies and all of day 1.  Tess was scheduled to run on the morning of the second day.  One of our main goals of the trip was to keep Tess company as she had to travel and lodge with our section, who were all strangers to her.

3 hours into the trip, with 2 hours left to go, we got a call that Day 1 had been canceled due to the heavy rains.  Boo.  We actually turned around to come home, but after working out all the details we decided to change directions once again and keep on with our goal of being there for Tess.  I am so happy we did! All of the events would now be run on the same day, which pushed her race from the morning to the afternoon.

Once we made it there Tess was checked out to us and the girls shopped and had a great time trying on outfits for hours.  It helped keep Tess' mind off her race the next day.

We got her back to her hotel by curfew, and hung out with her for a bit more before it was time for us to head across town to our own hotel room.  Everyone slept well and we met up with Tess the next morning at the State track meet.  Soon her parents and coaches met up with us, and then it was time to wait for her race and hope it would be run in enough time for us to see it, as we HAD to leave by 2pm.

And then in 5 minutes and 7 seconds it was all over.  We were so thankful we could be there for Tess, it wouldn't have happened without the offer and help from Maegan, who watched the littles and Michael.  The moment Tess crossed the finish line we had to pack up and head on home, as Michael was slated to sing in 5 hours and we had a 4.5 hour trip in front of us.  The trip home was uneventful and we did make it in enough time.  It was a fun, fun trip we will remember for a long time!
