State Champion!
What an amazing Track and Field Season! Elsa was excited to qualify for States in the 3000m run and the 2000m Steeplechase again this year, but the real surprise came in her 4x8 team qualifying as well! It was a glorious race at State Qualifiers, a come from behind win that caused me to lose my voice for over a week. This would be the first time FCS has ever sent a relay team to States.
Elsa's first event was was the 3000m run on Friday evening. She came in ranked 12th in D2 and ended up fighting her way to a 6th place finish, earning her 1st medal of the weekend! She ran a personal best time of 10:18.22 (new Varsity Record too) and was pretty pleased with the surprise medal!
Next morning she was finally ready to show what she had to give in the Steeplechase. She spent the regular season basically running against the clock, being at the top of her event for every race. Coming into the State meet undefeated, she was ranked 5th and was really hoping to move up in the ranks. She ran the perfect race and came in 1st, remaining undefeated and became the first team or athlete from our school to ever win a State title! Finishing in a time of 7:02.71 (personal best by 14 seconds and a new Varsity Record) she qualified for New Balance Nationals the following week!
Not only did she win the Division 2 State Title, she also placed 6th in Federation (top 8 finishers in both D1 and D2)!
The relay team ran later the same afternoon, placing 9th and only missed out on receiving a medal by 4 seconds! Such a great accomplishment for three Sophomores and an 8th grader. Can't wait to see what this group of girls does over the next 2 years!

Tess was next up and ran a great race. This was her second fastest time in the 1500m run, placing 9th, her highest finish at States to date, and only missed out on a 6th place medal by a little more than a second.
