States!

What a whirlwind 2 day event this was!  Elsa was slated to run the 3000m run Friday night and the Steeplechase the next morning with Tess racing an hour or so after that.  Tess and Elsa were the only ones from our school to qualify for States and they were happy to go and room together.  They left Thursday afternoon and worked hard to have as much fun as they could while still getting enough rest for their big races.

I was able to come out Friday afternoon and really enjoyed the high energy this big track meet had to offer.  I was excited to take some pictures before their races :)

Here she is warming up:

Picture from the newspaper:

She was ranked 8th going into this race and was hoping to improve her time and possibly move up in the standings and finish in the top 6.  It wasn't meant to be, but it was her second fastest time, and she ended up with a 10th place finish in Division 2 at States!!  She felt a little bit disconnected in this race, which isn't that big of a surprise.  She rarely gets to run on a big stage with runners superior to her, and it can be quite intimidating, but never the less, she was disappointed.  She was thankful she had one more race in the morning.

Another day and another race!  The march of the athletes onto the field:

She ran a fantastic race and bettered her Varsity Record by 13 seconds!!  She started the race ranked 7th and ended up placing 4th in Division 2, earning only the second State medal our school has ever seen!  A much better feeling than after the 3000m!

Tess was up next!  She was ranked 7th in the 1500m run, and like Elsa, was really hoping to end up with at least a 6th place finish.  She raced similarly to how Elsa ran her 3000m race and ended up placing 11th in Division 2.  Long distance is an up in the air event.  Some days you have it and some days you don't. You gotta love these two girls who are disappointed that they didn't place in all their races at states...AS FRESHMAN!   Good thing both girls can run again next week at Nationals, and have 3 more years to earn those top spots!
